What is Your Business Giving to Your Followers in Return For Their Engagement?

    January 25th, 2010

In all relationships there is give and take.  In the world of social media, many companies are now eager to leap into the world of social media networking—in particular Facebook and Twitter—to build their communities. There are many vehicles to do this and many businesses are giving away free coupons, for products and services, as a reward to those that join their fan page or tweet about their products and services. Others are making donations for charities that they support (e.g. we will donate $1.00 for each Facebook fan that signs up).

Think of Social Media and Your Business Like a “Mom & Pop”

    December 9th, 2009

I remember one of the highlights of being a kid was when my parents allowed us to walk to the Quick Shop. That was the name of the closest corner store—where we would buy candy, chips and soda. The Quick Shop owners knew us and it was always such a thrill when we were able to go there unaccompanied by our parents! There were other corner stores close by, but we always went there. All the kids in the neighbourhood did.

How Do You React to Brand Bashing Bad-Vocates?

    October 26th, 2009

These days, for most companies this question is their biggest fear. Marketers grapple with the assumption that as soon as we enter the world of social media, we are opening ourselves up to the brand bashing bad-vocates.

    October 16th, 2009

As the holiday season is now on its way, most businesses are certainly planning and thinking about how they will provide a memorable and positive shopping experience. With social media providing new ways for your customers to engage with one another and share everything under the sun—including their experiences—it has also become a touch point and, in many cases, a deciding factor for the choices that they make in all aspects of their lives.

Green is Great – But is it Really Green?

    October 8th, 2009

Many of you requested that I write more posts on Green. This is an extremely thought provoking article that focuses in on Ecological Intelligence. I had the most interesting conversation with a local restauranteur about this very topic several months back. They own a farm as well as their restaurant and use the produce from their farm as much as possible (she’s passionate about organic). Their question to me was when something is labeled organic, but the water or soil that may have been used to grow the product is not organic in nature, is that product really truly organic? What constitutes “green”?

    Share Your Long Tale

    August 18th, 2009

We all have a story. I always ask new customers “what is your story and is it being told?” Many times most businesses, brands, products and services begin with their story and then get caught up and forget how it impacts the value—they forget who the brand is targeting and lay that story to rest. In the “new world economy”, as I like to call it, your story is integral. It’s what draws potential evangelists and creates a connection that gives you permission to share with them. And in turn, they’ll share your story with others.

Twitter Generates $48 Million of Media Coverage in a Month

    July 20th, 2009

The talk from Twitters critics is that it is cooling off—that it is not a viable source from which to engage and connect. The article that I am going to feature today, comes from Advertising Age and certainly gives a reason to second guess that particular viewpoint. Hey, it may be worth a second look if you have already written Twitter off.
