In light of the response that I have received from some of my Linkedin Group members about the posts that I have shared—regarding social media—there is still a discomfort in moving ahead for many companies and business people. There are many others that are diving in and can see that this is now the best way to get leverage with their customers in this new soft economy—preparing for the robust but different future. We know that if you create the right strategy to begin with (know what your goals are before you start) you can and will be successful. Better yet, focus on the target market that has the spending and decision making power. Yes…I’m talking about women. They use social media and spend a significant time online. They love to share information and they want to engage with the companies that will fulfill their needs and address their challenges (because they understand). And the end benefit is that your company will gain a brand evangelist and a repeat customer that spreads the word to others like wild fire!

I have a one word answer. Women. The Economist suggests that women in the West are responsible for more than 80% of purchase decisons. That means they are purchasing in every product category—regardless of what many stereotypes suggest. That means not just great bags and shoes, but consumer electronics, cars and their maintenance and parts. That means the “traditional boy toys” are now the domain of the woman purchaser or decision maker that will decide what “boy toy” to buy!

Share says on it’s home page that women are unique; we have have many voices and we want you to listen to us. Our goal and mission as a business is to engage everyone. And to make others realize the importance of focusing on, and incorporating into their marketing plans and strategy, ways to connect and engage one of the most important and lucrative target markets in this current economy. While I am preparing a sales pitch for some new clients I have earmarked, I came across the most amazing blog. It is called Lady Geek http://ladygeek.org.uk/. They help businesses sell technology to women and are based in the UK. As a firm that helps businesses “teach men how to sell to women” I was immediately intrigued. We have a division in our business designing and building technology—an industry that is still very male dominent. There are some great women technical architects out there, but the numbers are still few and far between.

We are currently drafting a strategic plan for a consumer goods company and I mentioned just this morning that coupons, in this new economy, are definately worth giving attention. I must note that to some financial savvy people they were always important. Check out the http://www.couponmom.com/. Her site provides coupons for anything and everything that you could think of. Who doesn’t want to honor their almighty dollar by getting the best deal you can for the products and services you need and use?

It has been a while since I have focused on an article about women. As a women run and owned firm we are certainly proud to be part of this new dynamic. The article I am going to share is written by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay. I think that this article says it all about where the world is going and how important it is to focus on this most important demographic from a marketing standpoint and from a business persepective. Look at your team—do you support and encourage women in your business? Are you doing business with women run and owned companies? The attached article comes from the women owned Huffington Post and the point……”Survey after survey from California to Norway shows that women are not only good for business, but that companies that employ more senior women actually make more money. Call it Pink Profits“.

One of the things I want to continue to do with my blog postings is share with you the wins of admirable companies. Not just those that are run by women but those that are also taking stock of how they can better market to women and, of course, enhance how they market to everyone. One-to-One marketing continues to be important. But one-to-many, where social media now has the power through the many channels that most of us now participate, enables all of us to share ideas, information and pass it on to others.

“Our challenge is to see beyond the world and invoke new beginnings.”
~ Marianne Williamson
On the heels of President Obama’s speech last night to congress, he hosted his first lunch for newspeople. I get a feed from a site called mediobistro.com that focuses on media news from various sites. I came across some of the “newspeople”—really news anchor’s blogs—and of course was drawn to Katie Couric’s blog. She calls it Couric & Co.

I received an email from my friend Anne Ream’s foundation The Voices and Faces Project—a documentary initiative created to bring the testimony of sexual violence survivors to the attention of the public:
“we have seen first hand how difficult it is for women to come forward with their testimony”.
