I have written many articles about Twitter in the last few years that I have been writing this blog. There are many out there -that are still trying to figure it all out – along with many other social media sites such as Facebook and Linkedin. While you continue to ponder or assume that many of the people you are trying to connect with and target may not be there – guess again. On Twitter alone there are more than 100 million users and many small businesses have already begun to use it as a free resource to market their business. I tell our clients all the time that even if you are not ready to use social media – I can almost guarantee (I still go by the adage that their are no guarantees in life!) – that your current and potential customers already are and better yet they are talking about YOU. The question becomes are you reaching out and talking to them? Read the rest of this entry »

As we celebrate both Passover and Easter – I thought this article I found from Social Media Insider – not only offers great information – but apropos in light of the holiday season. To quote another article I found in the New York Times – which speaks about business schools – incorporating courses about social networks as part of their MBA programs. The author Fiona Mackay says in response to a large retailer who makes some real social network blunders “The lesson: social media are not marketing toys to be handled by interns but a professional communications channels that require understanding of the technology and the community that uses it.” Here is the link if you would like to read the full article. http://tinyurl.com/yd2j5xv Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not just the large companies that are getting in the Social Media game—it’s also the small “mom and pop” shops that show how success can be attained in building customers by using twitter. For those that are looking for case studies to support the notion that social media can drive success (proof that it’s safe to dive in) the article I am going to post from the New York Times is for you.

One of the things that I have not written about is Facebook. It is now growing bigger than a tall building, faster than a speeding bullet and making in-roads into other social media applications. Most of us now have a Facebook page or know of someone that does. We all know that Facebook became one of the key operatives in the Obama Presidential campaign. It has now gone from a way to connect with friends, to a viable tool for businesses to share information, values and build that all important brand equity that is now becoming a best asset in this new economy.

This article is two fold as I am going to attach Seth Godin’s blog post today as it relates to one of his books—of which I read “Meatball Sundae”—and Wedgewood China, which he also wrote about in the book and was featured in an article in the New York Times January 9, 09.

As the holidays are fast approaching, I would be remiss if I didn’t find a holiday theme that ties in with technology. There are a gazillion articles out there that talk about retail and the various online offers, coupons, price reductions, free shipping, “tell a friend and receive” programs and the list goes on.

I am going to post the link to the article where I found this quote. I think it’s one of the most helpful and insightful articles I have read in quite a while. The title is “Multiscreen Madman” and it’s from the New York Times (yes, one of my favorite sources of information). This article features an interview with Robert Rasmussen, executive creative director of the Nike account at R/GA, AKQA chief creative officer Lars Bastholm and Barbarian Group CEO Benjamin Palmer.

As I continue to educate myself by trying to figure out all the ways that I can use social media in one day, I find that it’s become a bit of a full time job. Amazingly, there are all sorts of tools available that can assist you. I am sure many of you are already familiar with the various tools that allow you to post on several of your social media networks at one time.
