Real Power of Mobile is Leveraged Abroad

    October 14th, 2010

These days in marketing – many are looking to mobile and the ipad and how to create apps and mobile campaigns to leverage their social media and marcom campaigns. As a communications company that continues to expand – as one of the few truly global leaders in Canada – we are interested in the power of mobile – not just how we use it here in our day to day life – but how the world is using mobile and the power it has on the global stage. Using Social Media as a Way to Respond To Customer Service Complaints

    October 4th, 2010

As we begin to eagerly move forward in the last quarter of 2010 – social media is no longer something that is unfamiliar to most. Today via my Twitter feed, I saw a question from Mitch Joel of Twist Media and Author of the book Six Degrees of Separation – that asked
Does complaining about customer service in social media make a difference?

All sizes of companies big and small have lost their leverage with purchasing customers – because the public in many cases has lost trust in brands. These customers who have had information pushed to them for years and years – now have the opportunity and are armed with the information they need about products and services -without the assistance of the companies that produce and offer those products and services. As mobile continues to grow and more people are now using smartphones – the opportunity to leverage their multi-function applications for marketing of your brand products and services – has become increasingly important. As our world continues to be more connected with social media the ability to use your phone – as your roaming computer – has made information available to you  instantly. I am sure you have seen or heard about QR codes. The black and white matrix embedded in a box shape. By using your camera to take a picture of the matrix – it allows you access to websites, images and text. Read the rest of this entry »

    Lifes Unexpected Challenges

    August 8th, 2010

Hi Everyone it has been almost 3 weeks since my last post. For all those who have an RSS feed with SHARE blog I sincerely apologize for the lack of posting. Over a 3 year period I have been able to be dedicated and consistent – regarding our posts week in and week out. A month ago, what is happening to many of us all – happened to me. My father who at 90 has been healthy, mobile and busy with some general illness issues – that anyone with almost a century behind them would accumulate – has become seriously ill. We have had repeated visits to emergency as well as admittance and then releases and then started the process all over again. With him being an hour away – I am finding out what it is like to be a commuter and to be of as much support as I can – as one of the primary care givers for my father.

We believe that or I should say I believed – I was prepared for when this day would come, but when it arrived I was not even close to being ready. I think for all of us, know matter what age our parents are – we are never prepared for them to have to go through the challenges that can come as you age. In our case my father is a fighter and determined to surpass all of these serious issues as soon as possible. It is our job to help support him and negotiate the challenges and find outside support to help us do that as best we can.

In these times what I have learned is that family comes first and then everything must come after that. None of us are super human – especially women who want to take on the world! That by the way would be me!! The result is that the blog has fell behind and so I felt it important to SHARE where I was and hopefully touch someone else who is going through the same experiences as I am! Life is an evolution and we are all on a journey – sometimes SHARING what we are going through helps us as much as it does others!

Looking forward to getting back to the world of social media next week!

    Best Nicole

Sales People Using Social Media for Real Results

    June 21st, 2010

Remember those delicious Girl Guide Cookies? Or the Avon and Mary Kay representatives that used to come door to door – with their catalogs back in the day. They would have a bag of samples of products for you to try, you could leaf through their catalogs make your selections and then your representative would come back to your home and hand deliver your order. None of those things have disappeared – but like everything the methods for which some of those salespeople are now not only finding new customers, but communicating and engaging with their current customers is via social media online. Old Media Transitioning to New Media – Some Inspiring Videos

    June 14th, 2010

In light of the world cup soccer FIFA – taking place as I write this in South Africa – I thought it might be fun to write about sports and social media. As many sports fans know ,there are many sports that have embraced social media from NBA basketball ( which is in the midst of a nail biting finals), hockey congrats to the Chicago Black Hawks who won the Stanley Cup after a record draught of 49 years! WOW that is worth the celebration that took place on the streets of Chicago! Yes my beloved tennis just finished the French Open and all of these sports have embraced social media. Ideas Worth Spreading – Lessons Learned From A Free Culture Called Fashion

    June 10th, 2010

That tag Ideas Worth Spreading is attached to TED Talks. It has been a while since I have posted one of their fabulous lectures. I find them to be innovative, creative, shocking, funny, inspiring and a place where the unimaginable ideas make really great sense. I try to go the site regularly pick a random topic – listen and learn! You can find them at http://www.ted.com. I recommend you make the visit if you have not. You are sure to find some of the people you know, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and those you may not know such as Joanna Blakeley.

As we all know I not only began my career in fashion – but to this day love it as much as my days as a 3 year old – sporting my mothers jewelery, bags and shoes. I just listened to a lecture by Joanna Blakeley that I am going to post – that uses the free culture of fashion and copying to show how many businesses – including the business I work in now – that the freedom leveraged from fashion from not having legal right to copy rights and trademarks – can be a very lucrative business for all. Both designer and mass market. The ideas she SHARES and the analogies she uses from one of my most favorite things – give great pause for thought – for many industries. By the way “we all need to cover our naked bodies as she says” and as you will see in the presentation the ROI is nothing to sneeze at!

Open source for the digital world has certainly taken on this idea of not only SHARING ideas but copying those that were great and putting a new twist on them……how are you free in your industry to SHARE your ideas? IF not – maybe it is time to look at this wonderful video that talks about how creative industries can learn from fashion’s free culture.

    Enjoy.

Say Who is Using Social Media?

    June 7th, 2010

I was in a meeting a few weeks ago and one of the executives in the meeting mentioned -that many of her clients are not using social media. Big corporate companies in some cases are not – but IF you think for a second that it is not being used by every industry you can think of – think again! Almost everyone I know and that YOU know has a Facebook profile or knows someone who does. From your local grocery store, to your local news station, to the boutique who sells your favorite shoes all have a presence on Facebook! Read the rest of this entry »

The Power of Social Media and The Big Corporations Who Are Being Forced to Listen

    May 18th, 2010

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the Nestle social media backlash – in fact I may have touched on this debate some months back. In any event to fill in those that are unfamiliar – Greenpeace was very upset with Nestle claiming their practices contributed to rainforest deforestation. They then used Youtube to post a very graphic video to shock viewers. It came across my path more than 8 weeks ago and I am sure for many of our readers it crossed your path as well.
