It has been a couple of months since I have posted on our blog. The role of care giver to my father over the last year – has taught me that priorities change, time allows you to do only so much in one day and without your health nothing matters. As he is slowly recovering – I am going to try to get back to posting some of the amazing events this year has to showcase, in the warp speed world of digital tools and social media. I commend all of us out there – who are now adding the role of care giver to the list of tasks and priorities that shape how we live our lives.
Normally I post a link to articles that touch me or incite something that I wanted to talk about and share with our readers. For today I am going to post an article that I though was important as more businesses focus on how to market to women. Most of us are familiar with TED Talks. I have posted many of them on this blog over the last few yrs. Engage Boomers: Media Posts rss feed from today – had a beautiful article written by Stephen Riley who attended the most recent TED Talks. What got me was the line “What Boomer Women Look Like” and the subsequent overview of some of the world’s most powerful women and how they reflect accomplishment – not reflected as a targeted age group – but rather as women making a grand difference around the globe – and as Riley writes “creating goals with a purpose.” Read the rest of this entry »
That tag Ideas Worth Spreading is attached to TED Talks. It has been a while since I have posted one of their fabulous lectures. I find them to be innovative, creative, shocking, funny, inspiring and a place where the unimaginable ideas make really great sense. I try to go the site regularly pick a random topic – listen and learn! You can find them at http://www.ted.com. I recommend you make the visit if you have not. You are sure to find some of the people you know, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and those you may not know such as Joanna Blakeley.
As we all know I not only began my career in fashion – but to this day love it as much as my days as a 3 year old – sporting my mothers jewelery, bags and shoes. I just listened to a lecture by Joanna Blakeley that I am going to post – that uses the free culture of fashion and copying to show how many businesses – including the business I work in now – that the freedom leveraged from fashion from not having legal right to copy rights and trademarks – can be a very lucrative business for all. Both designer and mass market. The ideas she SHARES and the analogies she uses from one of my most favorite things – give great pause for thought – for many industries. By the way “we all need to cover our naked bodies as she says” and as you will see in the presentation the ROI is nothing to sneeze at!
Open source for the digital world has certainly taken on this idea of not only SHARING ideas but copying those that were great and putting a new twist on them……how are you free in your industry to SHARE your ideas? IF not – maybe it is time to look at this wonderful video that talks about how creative industries can learn from fashion’s free culture.
I hope all of you are enjoying the holiday season. I thought I would post a great video today from one of my favorite sites, TED Talks. TED’s tag is “Ideas Worth Spreading.” I couldn’t agree more and I encourage all of you to go to the www.ted.com and listen to some of the presentations. There is something for everyone who is interested in listening to stories, discovery, inspiration, education and entertainment!
With social media at the epicenter of our business and what we do for our clients, this video by Reddit’s co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, provides a quick 4 minute presentation about how to make a splash in social media. “Alexis Ohanian of Reddit tells the real-life fable of one humpback whale’s rise to Web stardom. The lesson of Mister Splashy Pants is a shoo-in classic for meme-makers and marketers in the Facebook age.”
For those out there still on the fence and looking for ideas about how social media works and the result possibilities for your business, this quick presentation is chock-full of amazing information! We can all find 4 minutes for such a great lesson! Happy Holidays.
One of the keys to sharing information is telling a story. A story about who you are; a story about a product or brand; a story about a country or a culture. I write in our own blog that in defining a brand—everyone has a story—people use those stories to identify not only with one another but also in reference to the products and services they choose to use. In our “About Us” section of this blog, I ask “is your story being told“? Read the rest of this entry »
I talk about and post many of Seth Godin’s blog posts quite regularly as he is truly one of my marketing gurus and teachers. He is very clear and concise about his explanations of how you can maximize technology for marketing success and always has a plethora of case studies of companies who have found success using the tactics of which he speaks. For those of you that are not familiar with the TED talks, TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together those three types of people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become even broader with talks from those you know and are familiar and those that are spectacular that you might not recognize. I could stay on this site day in and day out listening to these talks. So much facinating information, so much creativity and so much passion. It is truly addictive. In their archive there are more than 200 talks, each limited to 18 minutes. Read the rest of this entry »
