Stand with the Women and Girls of Congo

    February 9th, 2009

I received an email from my friend Anne Ream’s foundation The Voices and Faces Project—a documentary initiative created to bring the testimony of sexual violence survivors to the attention of the public:

“we have seen first hand how difficult it is for women to come forward with their testimony”.

    January 29th, 2009

Well into his first full week as President of the United States, Barack Obama—with the backing of the US Congress—is signing into legislation equal pay for equal work! Woot as many say on twitter when someone loves something.

Was it the Year of the Women in 2008?

    December 31st, 2008

As one year inches towards the end and evolves into the beginning of another, many look back upon the year that has passed. So many exciting things took place in 2008. Many of them ground breaking all around the world. The US election was for the world—certainly one of many ground breaking opportunities to watch change take place in the United States.

    Making Space for Women Entrepreneurs.

    December 18th, 2008

I have been extremely interested in trends for years. I love to read a broad range of newsletters that cover all sorts of cultural topics. Springwise, in particular, is a terrific newsletter that covers business innovations for entrepreneurial minds. It’s one of the world’s leading sources of new business ideas—powered by a network of 8000 + spotters. Pretty darn cool!!

For the love of print in the age of social media.

    November 30th, 2008

The other day, I had a discussion with Nicole (my partner in crime) regarding her “Twitter as a news source” post. As our chat wore on, we eventually made our way to a comment she made about her exec friend’s desire to get PR within the printed pages of Canada’s most reputable national paper, The Globe and Mail.

Ready Set GO! Online Retailers Embrace Web 2.0 This Holiday Season.

    November 20th, 2008

If you’ve been following my posts, you may have begun to recognize a familiar pattern. One that involves me wading daily through all sorts of trend reports, ezines, e-mails and blogs from every industry you can imagine. In my world, meetings never begin before noon (that’s if I have anything to say about it) and my morning kicks off with a potent cup of joe and a mountain of mail overflowing in my inbox.

    Motrin’s giving me a headache.

    November 18th, 2008

You know, even when I was a young girl I felt different. I wasn’t into the same things as a lot of the other little girls—skipping about in their little dresses and pigtails. I was a loner. I enjoyed reading and writing my own little stories; I could spend hours drawing and not even care whether I saw another human face (other than the one I’d just sketched). I always thought I was a bit of an odd-ball—not that there’s anything wrong with that! So from my somewhat unique vantage point, it’s interesting to me to see how this whole ‘Motrin’ debacle has been playing out.

We are going to try to provide all sorts of examples of great branding at the same time we discuss the problems, concerns and ways that companies do not speak to women or consumers in a way that encourages them to become brand evangilists.

Let Us all Eat, Drink, Dream and Live for Chocolate!

    November 12th, 2008

I attended the opening of a new restaurant chocolate lounge last night. The theme and star of the show was chocolate in as many forms as you can imagine: drinks, truffles, sandwiches of mango, strawberry and chocolate, truffles filled with caramel and salt accompanied by champagne, guava martini’s with a spicy kick, and cognac.
